About Brian Coombs
A key defining passion of Brian was his love and friendship with God, worshipping, praying and reading the Bible. However, he didn’t live a 'religious life', he lived the life of a man who with all his strengths and weaknesses, listened to the Holy Spirit and integrated his life with God into a variety of interests.
Brian began his Christian walk at Glenbervie Baptist Church where he was baptised. He loved serving with the Scripture Union Essendon Theos outreach where he was a mentor to young people. In his time at Richmond Assembly of God (Bridge Church), he was a home group leader, volunteer youth leader, involved in creative ministries, choir, plays and drama, including street performance. He undertook short term mission trips to The Philippines with Pastor Bruce Hills and was a volunteer team member with Teen Challenge St Kilda.
At Eastside Assembly of God he was appointed leader of Youth Ministry, preached, arranged youth camps and a mission trip to Indonesia. At Doncaster Assembly of God he led with Tina Waldron, was a home group leader, and led a mission trip to China with Tex Houston. Most recently at Activate Church, Wantirna, he was a home group leader, and a great encourager to young people.
Three things that defined Brian were faith, hope and love.
Faith – His faith and his personal relationship with God. He prayed and encouraged in a really down to earth, Aussie guy kind of way. For many people who knew Brian, he was the only Bible they ever read.
Hope – Brian was a changed person, and changed people change people. He had a hope, a sure hope, a hope like an anchor, not crossed fingers hope, but rock solid unwavering hope.
Love - Brian had a deep love of God, of his family, and the people God made and brought across his path. He was a role model of how men can love God. It was clear to all that he loved to worship God. He loved his dates with his wife Karen. He loved his “dad dates” with his daughters. He hadn’t had much opportunity to be fathered by his earthly father so he asked his heavenly father how to father his daughters. Brian had the best teacher. He finished well - being told how much he was loved.
